Making kids compose.
An pedagogical composition project
Initiated by Grégoire Lorieux with the help of Sandrine Piq (former Ars Nova ensemble), Paysages composés leads teenagers through a journey from listening to composition.
1. Kids listen their sonic environment (soundscapes, meditative listening).
2. They record this environment (field recording).
3. They listen again, understand the sounds, find music in them. They extract interesting/gestural elements and probably make loops out of them. (Audacity)
4. Professional musicians listen to this sounds and sonic/gestural elements. They "imitate" them. All this musical material is recorded.
5. Kids mix sounds from field recordings and instrumental takes and compose step by step by finding sonic/gestural relationships. (Teens can compose)
6. Composer Grégoire "notates" the kids' mixes, separating instrumental from electroacoustic material, brings different sequences together, making a score for the musicians.
7. Final concert, presenting this piece for instrument + tape !
